SEPTEMBER 16 1936. Canned 10 qt. beef and 9 qt. applesauce. Hans left after dinner for rest of week. We went to chicken supper at the church. WHMS comm. mtg and S.S. board mtg after. 1937. Canned 6 qt. of apple, jam and juice. Long days at home all day begin. Let down Kathryn's frost-green skirt. Wrote Edna Maxwell in Dubuque and 7. Got 7. 1938. Fell on my head down our back steps. - lucky with not getting worse than a shaking up - Cleaned downstairs radiators, baked first brown bread this fall. No rain! 1939 Heat broken at last. Fine day. 20° cooler. Sig registered as Soph. Velma my only help in A.M. tho Sig made cookies and Kathryn rolls. I made pies, finished fixing over Hilda's rust dress for Velma. Canned 6 qt. tomato juice, made jelly. 19
