OCTOBER 23 First freeze. Canned 1 qt. pears, baked cookies for E.L. Hallowe'en party. At Garden Club at Mrs. Keyes' in eve - Gertrude [illegible] taking my place on program comm. After Frank's guitar lesson, we went to [Hadley's?] for a brief chat and Frank part of game of Monopoly with girls. I helped put on 7 storm windows after Hilda washed them. I washed all 6 west windows outside. Raw weather - grand to have storm doors and w. on. Jay and Hans came in to church. I gave report for Missionary society at church for "Check Up" Sunday. Sat. in S.S. class for once. First snow - green leaves on trees yet and flowers blooming. Gettysburg battlefield, then drove thru Maryland, arr. Washington 10 A.M. Met Lippert, Ellickson, Gladys Baker, Wilma Hughes Petersen, Robinson, Woolman, Gold, Gang [illegible] at Naylor's Sea Food Cafe. M.A. and I up in Washington monument, to Lincoln Memorial and to Smithsonian.
