DECEMBER 30 19 Hans had to have his car pulled out of mud. Very rainy forenoon. Cold wind in eve. Ironed, sewed on Billie's suit and helped Signe finish her corduroy snow pants. Salsify from garden for supper. 19 Fried out lard; more darning and sweater washing. K and Signe helped Brandt's finish tobacco stripping. 20°, slick outside. Wrote Dora, Helene. Frank went in with Lester Graffin for his guitar lesson. Used last of our Greening apples. 19 Washed, using new water-softener. Signe hung clothes. Zero. Crocheted. Hilda is making a blouse from her old lavender dress. Shortened my dark green dress. 19 Final arrival of winter. 20° colder in a few hours. Baked 2 pies, gooseberry, and cranberry. 19
