February 16, 1919 THE DAILY IOWAN STATE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA PAGE FIVE Sophomore Cotillion.... Friday, Feb. 28 First Big Peace Formal NO FLOWERS Limited to 125 Couples CO. A. HALL $3.50 Including WarTax BIG ORCHESTRA Dancing Until One Tickets on Sale at Whetstone's Now B. I. F. F. Contrib Day I have a grievance deep that eats my heart And rankles there each morn from eight till twelve; But should I write my protest o'er my name In that column which speaks what others think Three cons would greet my labors in that school Where is impressed the Hippocratic art. Three cons is their reward who look askance At each new petty tyranny brot forth-- (You know it takes but three to send us home)-- Until we live as German slaves of old Beneath the yoke that bound them to their lord. Should one try to write of all our wrongs An issue to itself would this require. Therefore, I shall content myself with one, The latest imposition laid on us Before some kind misguided friend conceived A plan to grant more time for luncheon hour, We came ten after eight and left at twelve, Or rather some five minutes past the hour. But now upon the stroke of eight we come And stay until the bells ring out for nine, And so from nine till ten and ten till twelve Each hour runs out its sixty minutes full. The gracious boon enacted for our good Costs us five classes where we had but four, Yet leaves us not a single second more With which to Fletcherize our noon-day meal! And will this change? Indeed I know it won't! For those who rule our lives throughout the course Have been presented with a clever scheme That gives more time for making strawless bricks! J. Clark Cooper, M. D. '02, was the guest of his sister, Zada M. Cooper, last week. Dr. Cooper is practicing in Villisca. Mildred Tummel, Margaret Merritt Pearl Powers, and Glayds Cutter spent Friday in Cedar Rapids. Isabel Nauerth is carrying the University mail during Miss Rock's absence. Prof. E. N. S. Thompson of the department of English was called to his home in New Haven, Conn., last week by the death of his father. Mrs. J. C. Hotz, formerly Josephine Lynch, of Omaha, is visiting at the Hotz home here. She is accompanied by her son, Billy. Alan Nichols surprised his A. T.
