Sunday, March 2, 1919 THE DAILY IOWAN STATE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA PAGE THREE [advertisement] The Freshman Party … INFORMAL—NO FLOWERS THE ARMORY Friday, March 14, 1919 9 Piece Orchestra Tickets $2.00 Plus War Tax Tickets on Sale at Whetstone’s Now Tickets Limited SOCIETY AND PERSONAL HOLD FIRST FORMAL The sophomore cotillion, the first formal for two years, was held Friday evening at Co. A hall. Dancing began at 9 o’clock. Decorations in pink and green were worked out in lattice effects which partly hid comfortable corners. Palms helped in carrying out the summery effect. Director O.E. Van Doren and his orchestra of ten pieces furnished the music. Three extras were played at which time refreshments were served at the College Inn. Programs were of dark leather. Col. and Mrs. Morton C. Mumma were the chaperones. I. W. A. A.’S GIVE PARTY Powdered wigs, fichus, dainty flowered bodices, hoop skirts, and colonial slippers were worn by members of the I.W.A.A. who danced quaint minuets and the gay Virginian reel at the Washington’s birthday party in the women’s gymnasium. Initiates who had taken metal [unreadable] but had not presented the stunts required for membership, further entertained those present. Since the party was competing for attendance with “Parlor, Bedroom, and Bath” a take off on that play was an amusing feature. Ice cream was served with cakes decorated with tiny flags. MARVIN-SEEBERGER Announcement has been received of the wedding of Merze Marvin and Lieut. Vernon R. Seeberger of Des Moines, at Shenandoah, Tuesday, Feb. 25. Lieutenant Seeberger is a graduate of the colleges of liberal arts and law, and is now practicing law in Des Moines. Mrs. Seeberger is an alumna of the University of Missouri. She has been a member of The Des Moines Register and Tribune business staff, where she specialized in advertising. She is grand treasurer of Theta Sigma Phi, the honorary journalistic sorority. Sigma Nu entertained at an informal dancing party at Majestic hall Saturday evening. Dr. and Mrs. C.F. Kurtz were the chaperones. Margaret Young was called to her home in Omaha Thursday on account of the illness of her mother. Ruth Smith of Des Moines is visiting her sister Marion at the Tri Delt house. Nadine Cain is entertaining her mother of Colfax at the Tri-Delt house. Mildred Wells of Davenport and Helen Younkin of Lone Tree are visiting at the Tri-Delt house. Ben Navin of Waterloo is visiting at the Phi Kappa Psi house. Margaret Condit, teacher in the elementary school, went to Chicago last week with her father, Prof. Ira S. Condit, Cedar Falls, to attend a conference of the N. E. A. section. Phi Kappa entertained at Burkley Imperial at a dancing party Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Rader and Dr. and Mrs. J.J. Foley were the chaperones. Mary Proestler and Frances Schlatter are visiting in Davenport this week. Erodelphian literary society will hold its regular business meeting and program Tuesday evening at 7:30 in liberal arts drawing room. Ione Craig is spending the weekend at Des Moines.
