Tuesday, March 18, 1919 THE DAILY IOWAN, STATE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA PAGE FIVE [IMAGE} The PRESENT HALL OF ENGINEERING ___________________________ JUNIORS OUTPLAY SENIORS _________ Good Team Work and Fast Play in Girls' Class Basketball _________ Junior girls' basketball team out played the senior team 12 to 6 in a fast game last night. The ball went to the junior forwards at the start and was kept there most of the time. Anna Thomsen threw the first score for the juniors which was followed by one for the seniors by Agnes Dawson. Miss Thomsen rang in three more, and Bessie Braig rolled another in for the seniors before the ___ of the first half. In the second half the juniors made two more baskets before Bessie Craig snapped off another for the seniors. By good team work and fast play the junior guards, Reva Meardon and Adele Kimm, held the senior forwards to a small score. Helen Hull and Esther Graves scrimmaged successfully with the senior centers, Adeline Cahill and June Hawkins. Anna Thomsen and Iva Baker rolled ___ six field goals over the hard working senior guards, Evelyn Bower and Anne Hobbet. The game was characterized by clean fast play. The juniors outclassed their opponents throughout almost the entire game. Substitution: Isis Kinser for Anna Thomsen. Field goals: juniors, Thompson 6; ____ Braig 2, Dawson 1. Fouls: Kimm 1; Meardon 1. Freshmen will play the sophomores this afternoon at 5. Ronald G. Reed was elected chairman. Other members are Edythe Saylor, Julia Wade, and Robert Aurner. Three other committees are to be appointed by this committee: membership, public opinion, and constitution. The constitution committee will make no report until Oct. 1. The University council was formed by representative men and women of the University at a meeting early this month. Problems and plan that affect the student body will be considered by the council, and an effort will be made to bring a closer union among the classes and colleges. Another meeting will be held at the Commercial club rooms Wednesday, March 26, at 5:30. _________ [Picture] DICKEN SCHENCK Chm. Exhibit Committee IOWA LOSES SWIMMING MEET Illinois defeated Iowa Saturday in the first telegraphic swimming meet ever held. Iowa won but two events. The results are as follows: Relay, Illinois won, time 1.25.4. 40 yard swim, won by Illinois, Iowas second, time .20.2. 200 yard breast stroke, won by Illinois, 6 inches. 100 yard back stroke, won by Illinois, time 1.32.2. 200 yard swim, won by Iowa, Iowa second, Illinois third, time 3.00. 100 yard swim, won by Iowa, time 1.03.1 Hanapel, Iowa's star swimmer, will be sent to the conference meet to be held in Evanston this spring.
