Tuesday, March 18, 1919 THE DAILY IOWAN STATE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA PAGE SEVEN About Other Engineers Weekly meetings for the entire school of engineering, where topics of general interest may be discussed, will be held at the University of Kansas. Upon the suggestion of Dean P. F. Walker, the men voted unanimously to adopt such a plan. After declaring a holiday, engineer students at the University of Kansas invaded the law school. They paraded through the buildings and left cars parked in the porticos. A dual debate is scheduled between the School of Law and the School of Engineering at the University of Kansas. The subject of the debate is, "Resolved; that compulsory military training be adopted in the United States." [photograph] ALLEN WALLEN Chm. Parade Committee The University of Nebraska will soon have a Liberty motor in the department of mechanical engineering. The United States has recently passed a bill permitting state universities to obtain for educational purposes the Liberty motors such as are used in airplanes. The Diesel engine was the subject of a lecture at the last meeting of the student branch of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers at Cornell university. A paper on the subject, "The New Theory of the Steam Turbine" which is at present creating a great deal of interest, was read. [photograph] STANLEY PRICE Chm. Banquet Committee All students taking examinations in the college of engineering and architecture at the University of Michigan will do so on the honor system, according to a late ruling. The Sibley Journal of Engineering, the official magazine of Sibley college, will resume publication with the April issue. Because practically all the board members were in service with the colors, publication was suspended last autumn. The Journal ranks high among the technical college publications of the country. Purdue will hold the first telephone plant school March 4, 5, and 6, under the direction of the school of electrical engineering, and in cooperation with the telephone companies of Indiana. The University service flag will be changed and made up to date as soon as the record of University men in service is completed. Records are changing constantly and new names coming in. No change will be made in the flag until it is a permanent one. Theta Xi danced at the chapter house Saturday night. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Hands chaperoned. Helen Grotewohl and Evelyn Kidder, Delta Gamma, will entertain their mothers during vacation. Mrs. E. J. Sexton of Tiffin visited her sister Kathryn Fritson Saturday. Florence Huber has been entertaining her sister Laura over the week end. Alice McMahon and Marion Henry spent the week end at the home of Verna Tagge at Durant. Dance Committee Lieutenant Brandt of the Municipal Pier training school, Dan Bailey of Winfield, and Harry Withim of Des Moines, are visitors at the Kappa Sigma house. Eleanor Melchor, Vivien Willets, and Gladee Casson of Des Moines spent the week end at the Tri Delt house. The senior diploma fee is now due at the secretary's office. The fee is ten dollars in all colleges. Schedules for next quarter are not yet ready. Thomas Greene, alumnus, is visiting at the Phi Delta Theta house. Max Conn's father from Hartley visited him over Sunday at the Sigma Nu house. Roy Hart and J. Clark Eichhorn were week end guests at the Delta Chi house.
