Saturday, April 5, 1919 The Daily Iowan State University of Iowa. PAGE THREE SOCIETY AND PERSONAL BLACKMAR-SNOKE The wedding of Florence Blackmar of Ottumwa and Lieut. Ralph W. Snoke of Davenport took place Wednesday, April 2, at the First Methodist Episcopal church of Ottumwa. The ring service was read by the bride's uncle, the Rev. E.T. Hagerman, of Des Moines. Mrs. Snoke is a former University student and a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She has attended the Cumming School of Art in Des Moines. Lieut. Snoke affiliated with the Sigma Chi fraternity while attending the University of Michigan. He also attended the State University of Iowa. He has just returned from twelve months' service as an aviator in France. C.W. Wester, professor of mathematics in the Iowa State Teachers' college, is visiting the University and the department of mathematics. W.H. Wehman gave an illustrated lecture on restored animals at the regular meeting of the Zoology club Tuesday afternoon. The next meeting will be held in two weeks when reports will be given on material gathered on the Barbados-Antigua expedition. Theta Xi entertained at a dinner dance at the Hotel Jefferson Friday evening. President and Mrs. Walter A. Jessup and Dean and Mrs. W.G. Raymond were the chaperons. Lieut. Chester Barger has registered in the University this quarter. Lieut. Barger has not yet received his discharge and is on fifteen day leave. He has been stationed at Camp Zachary Taylor. Sigma Pi will entertain at a formal dancing party at the Burkley hotel this evening. Prof. and Mrs. R. W. Chaney will chaperon. Principal G.H. Hillard of the elementary school has been appointed a member of the department of education at Earlham college, Indiana. An important business meeting of the faculty members of Phi Beta Kappa will be held Monday at 4:00 p.m. in room 104 L.A. Leland Irwin, senior, has entered the University again after being in the army for six months. Kappa Sigma will entertain at its chapter house this evening. Dr. and Mrs. H.L. Van Meter and Mrs. W.J. McDonald will chaperon. Delta Tau Delta will give a dancing party at the chapter house tonight. Dr. W.F.G. Swann, professor of physics at the University of Minnesota, will visit the University next Monday and Tuesday. He will give two technical lectures upon his own researches, at 4 o'clock, in his room 301, physics building. The public is invited. His subject will be "Atmospheric Electricity." Apollo club will give a dance at the Majestic hall this evening. Prof. and Mrs. Jacob Van der Zee will chaperon. Joseph Jackson of Davenport did not return to the University this quarter. George Wilcox, graduate student in the department of education, has received his appointment as instructor in a private school for boys at Silver Bay, New York. Donald D. Curtis has been elected secretary of the Associated Students of Applied Science, to succeed E.E. Jones, who was graduated from the University at the last convocation.
