HEP-ZET PLAY TRY-OUT The Hep-Zet societies will give their annual play May 15, entitled “A Scrap of Paper,” by John [Pal?] Simpson. This play is a comic drama in three [unreadable]. The French officer, Try-Outs will be held Wednesday evening. GOODELL SPEAKS AT CAPITOL F.E. Goodell, instructor in University high school, spoke at the convention of the central district of the Iowa State Teachers association in Des Moines Friday, April 3. His subjects were “Science of the junior high school” and “The effect of [gen?] on the special sciences.” GORGEOUS PAGEANT AND PARADE TODAY (Continued from page 1) Upon this huge platform besides wounded men from Fort Des Moines and from the county will be seated the Hon. Martin J. Wade, presiding officer, representatives of the Victory loan council, and the Hon. Nate Kendall of Albia, speaker of the day. Music by the University band will open the program, followed by the invocation by Father William P. Shannahan. Next in order is the pageant “For Love of Liberty.” Pageant is Original Margery Heberling is directing the pageant. Romola Latchem will represent “Liberty.” Other University women who will figure in the pageant are: Elsie Bowersox as “Russia,” Rose Reeve as “Portugal,” Edith Buck as “Belgium,” Irene Gray as “Switzerland,” Myrtle Fisher as “Latin America,” and Ruth Ramer as “Scandinavia.” Sixteen other girls, selected from the several townships of the county will represent the other allied nations. Sergeant Jacob Maier, of the University military department, will act as chief trumpeter in the pageant. The singing of the “Star Spangled Banner” will close the impressive display. A member of the English department of the University composed the words of this pageant. Weller to Explain Loan A speech explanatory of the Victory loan will be made by C.H. Weller, county chairman, followed by an address made by the speaker of the day. If time permits there may be one or more speeches by wounded men.
