Saturday, April 12, 1919 THE DAILY IOWAN STATE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA PAGE THREE SOCIETY AND PERSONAL Prof. H. L. Rietz, head of the mathematics department, will speak to the student class of the English Lutheran church on "Sacrifice in a Democracy" tomorrow at 9:45. J. Doden, head of the hospital dispensary, L.W. March, and L.W. Richmond, seniors in the college of pharmacy, are attending a Phi Delta Chi convention in Chicago. Conrad Staehling, B.A. '18 ,of Northwood, who has been in the service, has entered school. James Chamberlin is spending the week end in Davenport. Max Conrad is at Ames for the week end. Donald Croyl's mother is visiting him over the week end. Adeline Cahill, Alpha Chi Omega, has been called to Cedar Rapids on account of the serious illness of her aunt. Viola Grundeland has been visiting at the Alpha Chi Omega house. Laird Fryer is spending the week end at Fairfield. William Martin is visiting at Tripoli. Delta Zeta held initiation last evening for Ruth Stewart of Des Moines, and Nellie and Mildred Keller of Iowa City. Ruth Tisdale, Delta Zeta is spending the week end in Cedar Rapids. Raymond Galvin, of Holstein, a former student, is in the psychological section of the medical corps at Camp Sevier, South Carolina. Mrs. Matyk of Cedar Rapids visited her daughter Lucule this week. Alice Camerer, Gamma Phi Beta, is ill at the University hospital. James Cruikshank and Charles [?] Berry, students in the college of applied science are ill at the University hospital. Frances Turner, Gamma Phi Beta, has diptheria at the isolation hospital. Josephine Weiss, graduate of the college of pharmacy in 1918, is seriously ill at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines. Miss Weiss has been in charge of the hospital dispensary there. Irving institute and Erodelphian had a dancing party last night. Emily Walter, a student in the school of commerce last year, is supervisor of commercial education in the Dubuque high school. Mrs. Thomas Dowdell of Evanston, Ill., is visiting her daughter Dorothy at the Pi Phi house. Mrs. Hart of Omaha is visiting her sister Margaret Young at the Pi Phi house. Helen Hays is entertaining her mother from Sioux City at the Pi Phi house. L. Ruth Jones has accepted a position to teach history in the high school at Emmetsburg. - SATURDAY DRILL Schedule for Saturday drill, April 12, is as follows: L.A. companies, 9-11; all companies 1:30-2:30.
