PAGE FOUR THE DAILY IOWAN, STATE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA Thursday, June 5, 1919 SOCIETY AND PERSONAL Dr. B.A. Weber of Des Moines, former instructor in the college of dentistry, is visiting Doctor Penrose for a few days. Philo-Octave will give a joint play at Oakdale Monday evening, entitled "One Too Many for Him." Evelyn Bickett, Miriam Brueckner, Rose Durst, Hugh Tamisea and W.S. Johnson are the people who will present the play. Lamba Theta, honorary educational sorority, held election of officers at its regular meeting Tuesday evening. President, Helen Mackintosh; vice-president, Alice McMahon; corresponding secretary, Rose Proser; recording secretary, Mabel Snedaker; treasurer, Bess Goodykoontz; historian, Helen Davis; sergeant-at-arms, Constance Chapman. Prof. R.B. Wylie of the department of botany, entertained the students of his classes at Reichardt's pavilion Tuesday evening. Xi Psi Phi will entertain at a dancing party at its chapter house at 325 N. Clinton street Saturday evening. Dr. and MRs. E.S. Smith and Dr. and Mrs. R.V. Smith will be the chaperons. Margaret Knight of Estherville is visiting her sister Agnes at Currier hall for a few days. Mrs. H. Gates of Pierre, S. Dak. is visiting her daughter Beatrice at Currier hall this week. Zanna Osgood, freshman, is ill at Currier hall. Rosalind Jenks, Pi Beta Phi, is entertaining her mother of Prarie City at Currier hall. Ero-Irving will entertain at a picnic supper and dance at the Country club Friday evening. Mr. and Mrs. R.C. Bucknell will be the chaperones. Mildred Chambers left Tuesday for Des Moines for a visit at her home and to attend commencement exercises at Drake university. Helen McGillivray was called to er home in Lowden by the illness of her mother, Sigma Chi will entertain at a dancing party at its chapter house at 804 N. Dubuque Friday evening. Dean amd Mrs. D.O. McGovney wil be the chaperons. Helen McAlvin was called to her home in Waterloo on account of the serious illness of a cousin. Alpha XI Delta sorority has moved from 304 E. College street to its new residence at 431 E. Jefferson street. Phi Alpha Delta, law fraternity, will entertain at a luncheon Friday noon. Mrs. Walter A. Jessup will entertain Saturday afternoon from 3 until 6 in honor of the new women on the faculty. Dewey L. Smith, a sophomore in the University, left a few days ago for San Antonio, Tex., where he will spend the summer doing geological work with Prof. A.C. Trowbridge. A.F.I. is holding initation at the Jefferson Hotel this evening. Twelve new members will be initiated. Following the ceremonies a banquet will be given in honor of the new members. Mildred Whitcomb, editor-in-chief of The Daily Iowan, entertained the senior girls of the staff at a luncheon at the Hotel Jefferson yesterday noon. Ruth Rogers, Romola Latchem, Rowena Wellman, Elizabeth Hendee, Agnes Kingsbury, and Etheyn Williams were the guests. Sigma Pi will hold its last initation of the year Friday.
