Wednesday 11 AM Sept 23 (1942) Dear Folks, Just to make sure of my train connections I came into Chicago last night. Will leave here at 1:45 for Norfolk, thus bidding farewell to my beloved midwest until the war is over. I had quite a good time in Iowa City and a nice visit with Clarke and Mary on Sunday and Monday. It was wonderfully good to be with you folks again, see old friends, and all that sort of thing, but now I must devote every thought and effort to become a first class fighting man.
