Monday Oct. 19, 1942 Dear Family, The past week has been one of complete leisure; it will be hard to accept the discipline of training routine again. The planes from Norfolk which have been held up several days because of bad weather finally came in today. Operations on a limited scale should begin tomorrow. On last Wednesday Bob and I went into town to the play "Arsenic and Old Lace" being staged by local talent at a community theatre on the south side. We found it quite entertaining and well worth the effort. I confess that we harbored the hope we might meet some lovely girls or get asked out to a wealthy home - always an ulterior motive, you see. Unhappily the person who sat next to me was far beyond her youth - and how! Bob's luck, however, was much better. In fact the beauteous little creature next to him was just about as refreshing and pretty as any girl I have seen for a long time. What ensued prompted me to low caste poetry - an effort
