Saturday P.M. July 16th. 1864 Yesterday our co. was on duty at the state line bridge as the cap. was not well we had the whole of the duty to do. in the forenoon I went out and gathered a quart and a half of black berries which were quite good (and therby hangs a tail about Ainsworth In the afternoon our mail came and among other things three Magazines came to Dorland and my self from Williams - you can have no idea of the pleasure of such a receipt showing that we were not forgotten.
