Aug 6th. 1864 - Our Co on picket yesterday come off this morning. I was out to the picket outpost all yesterday afternoon & in the forenoon fixed our tent - last night I stayed in camp for the first time when the company was on duty - Our picket line is closed against citizens from the fact that we have learned that north of us there is a rebel camp - and the Col. has no Idea of letting them know the strength of our camp through citizens coming into our lines - We have not had a mail since the day before yesterday - Hope we will get one today.
