Aug 5th. 1864. This morning our company goes on picket and the prospect is quite gloomy I think we shall have rain. Last night was one of the strangest nights I ever saw - I thought I knew something about thunder and lightening but must give up that I never knew anything about it before - I can scarcely imagine how I kept dry - the other officers both got a good wetting - The tent of Co "C" fell down on them in the night I do not know what they did for the rest of the night - yesterday I went out fruiting
