I wish that I could talk with you in some detail about this instrument flying. It is quite exacting, very important, and more than a little interesting. Suffice it to say, that we get 16 hours in the Link trainers then 16 hours of dual instruction in the air. All flying is done under a hood so that complete reliance upon the instruments is necessary. The familiar & incessant cry of the instructors is - "needle, ball, airspeed" - the one, two, three method of instrument flying. After you get so you can handle your plane pretty well by using these three instruments, then training in the use of the gyro compass, artificial horizon, & rate of climb indicator is begun.
