EXECUTIVE COUNCIL OF THE PHI KAPPA PSI FRATERNITY Mason City, Iowa February 12, 1940 Mr. Kile Kinnick Phu Kappa Psi House 830 N. Dubuque Street Iowa City, Iowa Dear Nile: Mighty glad to have your card in which you ask about the Founders Day banquet in Chicago on Tuesday, February 20. I think it would be like carrying coals to New Castle for me to offer you any suggestions as to what to say, for I have seen you in action too often to feel any necessity of giving you advice upon the subject of how to make a grand speech. I realize that you do not claim to be a Chauncey Depew, but I do know that you will fill the bill in Chicago. As I understand it you are speaking down in Indiana Monday night and for that reason I assume you will arrive in Chicago some time Tuesday morning. I will have a room at the University Club, 76 E. Monroe and suggest that you come direct to the club from your train following your arrival. When I see you possibly I can give you one or two leads which you might use in your remarks that evening. I can assure you, Nile, I am looking forward to appearing with you on the night of the 20th, with mixed emotions. I certainly am proud of the chance to be taking part with you in the program and have a feeling that I very definitely will play second fiddle, but this is as it should be for I can assure you that the assembled brothers would a darn sight rather hear from you than from me. In any event we will both do our best and I am sure will get along fine. I had expected to be able to get down to Iowa City tonight for the purpose of witnessing Wilfred Smith's presentation of the Tribune's award, but simply could not make it, and will have to defer the pleasure of seeing you until next Tuesday when we meet in Chicago. If for any reason you desire further information regarding the Chicago meeting, do not hesitate to wire me at my expense. With every good wish to you and the other members of the chapter, I am Fraternally yours, Chase Strickland President
