Many poor fellows fell among them my truest friend who was pierced by a cannon shot. In the pale moonlight, we scooped a shallow grave on the battle field and laid him down to rest. [In Margin]- This was a scandalous affair. Our brigade was ordered to support the 27th Corps Brigade in our front and not to go in between two lines. It is said the whole thing was a feint to cover the (illegible) of our Art., but I couldn't see it.
