the weather becoming very warm. 2nd - Col takes command of detachment consisting of the - 17" 31' & 89 Ohio, and addresses a circular stating we were to act as train guard, The other Regts act in the same capacity - At 12 we pull up stakes and move to the left of the line during a drenching rain. Go 4 miles and pitch tents near a creek. This country abounds in scorpions, a deadly reptile. A Pontoon train near us. 3d..Lay still until 1.PM then started with the train going about a mile, turned off near the forks of the road and camped, the 17" near us. 4 Lay still all day. No news no mail, and nothing to interest us. 5" Start out at 3 1/2 All without breakfast and after going 2 miles halt get breakfast and go into camp in a wood Rain all morning. Continual fighting going on in front. Strike out again and go north east 1 1/2 miles and halt in a wood by the road 6 The 16th Corps train passing all day and cannot move out. See the 27 boys (Vertically down at left:-) Col W commands Regt again
