officer dare not raise his head. A continual whizzing of balls over our heads. Our batteries "counting out half a dozzen to them" Fun alive At 4 oclock the grandest artillery and of the campaign took place. More than 200 cannon opened and continued firing for 20 minutes We never witnessed anything half as terrific as the horrible whizzing of ball and bursting of shell! O it was terrible, Not a man in the regiment was hurt Firing [countered?], by the pickets 24th Very quiet along the line all day In the evening the 17th and 135 go & began to quarrel and kept it up all night. Very brisk skirmishing all night, 25. Quiet all day excep a duel in the artillery, Jackass Battery firing upon us and [dried?] up Very warm days Our battery blew up a rebel caisson 26" At dark we fall in at ten we are relieved by the 15" Corps and we move to the left 2 1/2 miles and lie in an open field all night, 2nd division moved here on 25" 27". At 8 A M we move up to the rear of the 20 A C and hold the works while a charge is made by our 2" Div who carry our line of works but fail on the 2nd line.
