GIFTS T'is nearing the Christmas holidays, My daily task is o'er, And I'm gazing out at the gay dressed crowd That through the thronged streets pour. There is a gay shop window, filled With rare gems from over the sea, And friend, is purchasing gift for friend, But none will think of me. And this one with books, and toys is piled From counter to ceiling above: And I sigh as I think of the simple gifts I've prepared for those I love. But then I know they'll prize them, Though plain and simple make, Not for the monied value, But for sweet friendship's sake. Midvill Camp Pr. Feb. 27 Dear father and mother I sat don to lat you know that I am well and I hope that these fue lins will find you the Same I reseved my pay day befor yesterday and Capt is going to express the money to Prockter to monticello I sand 50 dolers to you I wod Sand more but I thot that we mite not git
