Neer Atlanta 1 Augest 18[64?] Dear Father and m[other?] and Sister I Sat don to you know how I am I a[m?] well As aver and I ble my dauty to Fight the oll the time we was on Scermish line our Compiny and we made the rebes get hunt thar holes I Shot 12 ronds of Cathreges yesterday we dug us goud pits so tha Cod [not?] hit us and then we jest [fired?] it in to them the rebes lost Maney men sants tha Crost the river tha made som Charges and tha got badly whipt Came hard that thar was a hard fight on the eight of but I ges that it come out a right we got large force Seces it is hard to whip [illegible]
