December 17th in the morning the battalion fell in & marched out of the mud & camped on a nole close by lay there all day ready to march at a minutes notice cannonading heard on our right report is that we took 2100 prisoners, wrote a letter to Sister 18th still in camp 19th. in camp nothing to eat but fresh beef. 20th drew corn meal enough for breakfast.
