May 28th Cannonading commences about Sun rise Skirmishing all day it is reported that Longstreets forces are here & the enemy draw rations for eighty thousand men Gen McPherson attacked the enemy on the right & to seven pieces of artilery the enemy charged 3 times to get it back but were repulsed with a loss of 2500 killed & wounded
