Pleasant View Jan 22/65 Dear Brother James as I have bin so negligent about writing I will embrace the present opportunity in writing I should write oftener than I do if Elen was not here but I hear from you often we are all enjoying good health at present hoping this will find you the same we are haveing a regular winter day the air is full of snow and the wind blowing from the north west I had a letter from Giles folks the other day they were all well they write as if they were doing verry well they will have 7 cows next summer they had over 200 bush of wheat and it bears a good price $1,50 per bush butter is 50 cts and evry thing is proportion this last call for men give the copperheads plenty to talk about our nearest neighbor paid $1.00 to try and get rid of going to war they have got to have [70?] out of our township we have got a good school this winter we have had over 40 diferent schollars we have 2 spelling schools I expect Elen and the children will come out accomplished singers as we are haveing singing school they have got their books yet they will cost $1,50 they are called the key note we going to have fresh beef and potatoes and crout I wish you were here
