Marengo Iowa Feb 28th 1865 Tuesday morning Dear Brother Jim again I have seated myself to write to you. I do not know that I have any thing of much importance to write, but such as I have I will write. In the first place, our family are all well & doing tolerable well. Mother is down at Mr Miles' they are having quite a serious time there. Betsey was taken sick last Friday with a severe pain in her head & she died yesterday at 8 O clock she fell on the ice once last winter & hurt her pretty badly & the Dr thinks she took a severe cold & it settled there was what killed her, but I do not know. Mrs Miles was taken about the same time
