1 Tex Brazos Santiago Sunday March 19th 1865 Dear Ellen, This night, while as officer of the grand guard, I am sitting up for the purpose of visiting the guard after a while, towards midnight, I shall commence a letter to you, by noting down what little I have of what has transpired here since last writing, which I shall finnish when the mail comes. First, I will say that I have not had a mail for so long that I have forgotten how long it has been - very near a month. Last Tuesday I mailed a box of shells to you & my last letters went off by the same mail, though written some days before. I do not know but they will try to make you pay letter postage on the shells, though they had not ought to. If you get them at all I wish you to let me know all about it.
