Brazos Santiago Tex April 19th 1865. 8 P.M. Dear Ellen Your letter of March 21st & 25th was received on the 17th of this month. I asshure you that I was glad to hear from you again. Yours was the only letter that I received by that mail. I feel anxious to hear from home again, as they were not very well when they last wrote. We received news by the ship that brought your letter, of the fall of Montgomery Ala. and the surrender of Lee's army as well as the capture of a large number of prisoners by Sherman. We hope to have it all confirmed by next mail, which will probably come in the course of 2 weeks. We rather look for peace before long, at least between us & the Rebs. We rather
