the Co, as Lt Adamson, the next in rank, is in command of Co "D". I have virtually been in command for some time, save that I have had no responsibility of property, which I shall have when Cap leaves. I have had all the duty to do in the Co. It is thought that the rebs contemplate attacking us here as they are said to have lumber at Brownsville which it is supposed they are going to build boats of to come down the lagoon in. We are on the look out for them & will give them the best we have on the island. Col Barrett is in command of the forces here now. They consist of the 34th Ind, 87 Colored & 62nd Colored besidees a company of the 2nd Texas cavalry. I dont think of any thing more to write now so I might & as well bid you good evening.
