attempt to describe my feeling would only prove a failure. I trust that all things will work to gather for good. But nothing can detract from the blackness of the crime. It is a crime that every copperhead will be called to an account for in time or Eternity, or both. Alas the friend of the oppressed, the "Liberator" is, no more! The reb's and French at Bagdad, Mex conducted themselves very rediculously when they heard the news. They stuffed a federal uniform & made a mock funeral. They had better "go slow" or they will find us across the Riogrand some of these days, & then look out, for Bagdad. I believe I have written about all at present. I am glad to see that I am still kindly remembered by my friends of former days. Give my respects to them all. Praying that God will bless & protect you I remain Yours Truly J. H. Mead.
