Steamer Indiana 20 miles below Cairo Ill. May, 9th, 1865. Lt. Mead, dear sir:- It is not pleasant writing on a moving steam boat but as I would like to get an early response I am constrained to use my pen though it makes hen's tracks! - I wrote to Adamson in N.O. to have a certificate sent me by the Reg't'l Commander that I had made all proper Returns of Public property and that there are no stopages against me on Muster & Pay Rolls &c &c. - Tell Adamson, or the Co. commander to record with the order for my Discharge the date it was received. The same should be stated on Rolls on which I am mustered as discharged. - This to aid me to get all the pay due me. - Statler is with me yet. We have had a very pleasant trip up the River. - Excelent fare and plenty of it. - Weather still nice & warm. - Got my Discharge May 2nd. - Health improving. - In fact it is quite passible. - It is easy enough to get out of the Service now! Please direct an early response to Fitchburg,
