Begins through Decatur a little town of 500 souls in time of peace, through the works of the 23" Corps. and go 16 miles through a very level county and halt on a line with the other corps near a small stream at 7 PM. all very tired All are in high spirits although we know how immense is the work before us, It involves danger fatigue all a else that tends to destroy an army and having counted the cost we cannot be disappointed if but half our army get through safely. No one but Sherman would
