Whole country one vast swamp, the road being of sand and raised and splendidly graded. Every day dozens of our cattle drown in the swamps. Our 2nd Brig went off to the left to burn the RR bridge of the Charleston & Savannah road but found a large swamp on each side of the road and a battery commanding the road. They were driven off but burned a long tressel work, 11" We lay in camp until 3 PM meanwhile the "Jonnies" came up & tried to drive our pickets, popping along the line all forenoon We moved down the RR 2 miles
