Companion; Your favor of the 8th Instant came to Hand This Morning, Informing Me of Your own good Health; but the Reverse of the Children; it is Verry unpleasant to Have our Darling Boys afflicted, the babe I. Do not Infer from Your Letter is particularly afflicted - I would Think it Best to give John Some Good Castor Oil occasionally & be careful about His Diet. it would be Well to give the Babe Castor oil if She needs physick but if She only Needs Something to prevent Her stomach from Souring give Her a Little Soda Dissolved in water - Say of Soda what will Lay on sixpenny piece dissolved in an ounce Phial of water and give 20 or 30 Drops once or twice Daily or occasionally in teaspoonful of water. The Babes Bowels should Move Every Day otherwis Should Think best to give some oil - it Probably would be well to Give John a Little Valerian Tea occasionally - if He Does not Get Better by using a Little Oil & Restricting His Diet - You probably Know the Valerian - it Has a peculiar odor which I Think You will not fail to Recognize you will Prepare it By steepin one Main Root and its Branches in teacup of Boiling water & give one teaspoonfull or 2 Commencing 4 Hours before His usual time for Sleeping & in two Hours Give Him a second Dose. Write as often as You think proper but Do not want You to tax yourself with Sitting up nights Verry Late to favor me so Long as You are all well and for the future I think I Shall get Letters Sooner Mary Bean - Good Night A A Bean
