New York Jany 10th.46 Well Mary; Mrs.Bean at this present Time I am Enjoying Myself Tolerably well but; I have been considerably out of Health for Several Days past, was quite Sick Two Days Much as I was Last Spring while attending on Hewits child the one that Sherman and Avery Left to Die Several Days before they called on me. I have been Thinking occasionally During My Stay In N.Y. that perhaps at as Early a period as practicable with Business operations Here You would like to Have Me Return Home to take charge of that Rogue of a Boy &. co.. & My present Intention is; to Leave Here about the Beginning of February Say the first or second week. probably the first. You Need Not be alarmed if I should Vary from that Time one way or the other for a few Days. I Have commenced writing, as, the above will show and have fixed on quite a Loose Time of about 3 weeks for Leaving but Shall probably Receive a Line from You and also one from Butler Before I Mail This; which May Determine Me More positively on the Time of Leaving - I Have Committed another of My Errors this Morning; of Getting up Too Early - which by the way are not common with Me. Have written one Letter to Doctor Hamilton & Think I will go to bed without Danger of Getting up again before Daylight This Night; Sunday This as all other Days of Leasure forcibly Reminds Me of one whose soci Society I am Deprived of for the present; but it will not be Long now before I Shall Have the pleasure of Meeting with and Greeting My friends and beloved companion. I am Verry Buisy During Week Days Have Not any Time to be Lonesome and in fact am not when well but; when sick Then is the Time I miss the Society & attention of one that will Ever prove Kind. [Vertically, at left-hand side:] I Have written a Letter to Doctor Fifield Since church to Day; I attended the Rev Mr Simontons Church to Day and after Church accompanied Him to His House and took Tea with Him - His society is quite Interesting. is well Informed on General Subjects a pleasant and Interesting Speaker. His former Residence was near Cincinnati - His father being There at present and He Intends to move there next Summer - [Upside-down, between lines of main letter:] I Have Read Your Letters Several Times & at Each Reading they grow more Interesting particularly of Late; & I am of opinion You will Have to Read Mine Several times to get the first Interest I may Receive a Letter from You Ere this is mailed if So Shall Expect from Elapse of Time &c to Have occasion to Enlarge this or send another soon - I will Merely Say Here That You must not be Impatient if I Do not Leave Here untill the Middle or Latter part of February for as the Lectures or Subjects Lectured upon are Like to come up I may Hold on untill well into February unless My presence should be Required at Home if so I shall Leave Immediately; I come to this conclusion from present conviction it will be ultimately for My Benifit Though at present More for My pleasure and advantage to bear Arms I Have Not Heard from Butler Yet; but Expect to in a few Days what He may Do it is out of My Power to fore tell Still there ought to be Something Handed in on the Matters Left with Them - five weeks after this week will be The Longest Time I allotted for attd. Here & 3 weeks past being about the shortest possibly it might be well to Suggest that You Should write a Little oftner; for Mary an uglyer; Looking, woman & uglyer too would Have written More Letter to an absent Husband but probably would not Have filled them with as Valuable Matter Well Good Night Mary; Think I Shall Mail This tomorrow if I do not Receive any Intelligence from You & You may be safe in writing to me once more after Receiving this provided You write Immediately after You Receive this
