Spring June 8th. 1851 Dear Margaret Your letter came to hand in due time I was glad to hear from you. You said the peach trees were in bloom. so were ours the third of May and contrasted beautifully with the fallen snow which lay thik on the ground and branches of the trees. it has been a cold frosty spring and there will be but very little fruit Doctor has taken this place this year I have a girl to help me do the work I have pieced the quilt of Cornely dress with the blue and white stars as you told me I intend to quilt it before long The children listen with shining eyes to hear your letters read John often talks about the chestnuts he is going to give you and Sarah Ann says tell Margaret she wants an Orstrich feather you can get enough of them down there Edward had a letter from James a few weeks ago and three hundred dollars with it to help him in his business J's health had been poor but was better Watkin had been in Oregon but had got back to San Fransisco he writes occasionally to Laurinda she has been very sick with the lung fever but is quite smart again the rest of our friends are all well.
