Dear Uncle & Aunt I did not think when I left you for the great Emporium of the West that so long a time would have elapsed ere I should write you But time speeds on with such rapid strides that I sometimes pause in perfect amazement to mark its flight & see how little I accomplish & how many of my designs remain unexecuted But, believe me, it is not because I have forgotten your many kindnesses to me while with you for I shall ever hold them in remembrance. Why should I forget them, for you were ever kind to me & my little one. I have every reason to be very grateful. When I arrived at Fathers I found two letters awaiting me from Calafornia one from Husband & one from Brother Those were to be answered first (as a matter of course) those done friends to visit & a great deal of talking, & a letter to write to Uncle Ed It would not do to neglect him you know that finally Dear Unce & Aunt I have been so very very busy every
