Fredrick Maryland Oct 1862 Mary B. & children My Entire time has been devoted to the Relief of the Suffering; of which I assure you there is plenty of it here. I contemplated writing much sooner after notifying of my arrival here. Im in charge of the North 1/2 of the old Church Hospital: am there on Duty from 7 or 8 A.M. untill about 9 or 10 P.M. Some part of the time untill 2 A.M.; but the Severest time has past utill we get a new supply of Patients. Times would be Verry Easy now was; it not for past Exposure to Stengch Emmanating from those who had Recd Death wounds attended by profuse Internal Bleeding; the Odor has made an Impression upon My appetite - which I think will soon be Improved by the use of Lemon Ade. I Should Like to hear from Home My address is See Card Interupted by Doctor Shall we do so & so - I Should Like to hear from home soon as convenient & Shall Expect to have a Little more paper used; as ther are 4 to write against .1. President Lincoln Passed through this place on Saturday Called on Business; & on His Return from Harpers Ferry took Supper & called on some wounded General Lying here, not in this Hospital but in this city. The Sanitary Agent is here and I must spend some time with Him
