Frederick City Maryland October 9th. 62 Good Evening Mrs Bean & Children This week has been a very buisy one The whol Hospital Duties have Devolved upon Me - from necessity - My Associate physician is Sick Steward Sick quite sick both of them & it is with a certain Degree of pleasure that I prescribe for for them Circumstances have placed them completely under my control for the present. Cause of ascendency this some 3 weeks ago many of our patients Relapsed & to bring them Right again Required careful & skillful management: Constituting the most Effectual test for, ones, Theory: as usual I was fortunate not losing a single case; while on the other side of the House 3 died two from Typhoid Fever and one from congestion secondary Iritation after amputation: In Each case I Risked my Reputation by pointing out what I considered appropriate treatment & Did not fail to condemn the one pursued: My prediction was fulfilled to the Letter attended by the Lamentable consequences above alluded to - Next in order the Dr Himself was Indisposed He asked me to prescribe for Him; then came 4 cases assuming the same Increased Iratability of waund and system as was manifested by the young man that died last: the treatment in whose case I Seriously censured - I prescribed for them with Result most satisfactory: the Stewart being a particular friend of the Doctors He did not like to Risk Himself to treat it after 4 days trial passed it over.
