Fredrick Maryland Oct 12th 1862 This City was Emptied last night; of the shoulder Strapped Gentlemen; they being called to arms; for the purpose of Repelling a threatened attack of the Rebels; who are said to be 7 or 8 miles from this City; There was a small portion of them taken to day and Marched past this Hospital; I being Buisy Did not See them. All my Typhoid cases are Recovering, my associate physician is not quite as fortunate; still He shows me considerable Respect & solicits my advice as much as His nature will admit; for since the first few; days of my attendance here He has counselled me frequently; quite as frequently as I could Expect; for one of this Sour Self Important Man My writing Is Broken in upon by Musick in the Hospital; I pass out of my Room into The Gallery & Listen to a Hymn from 2 first Quality of Singers; then the Reading of a Chapter in the Bible & a prayer from the Rev. Mr. Diehl & another Hym & they pass on to another Hospital & proceed with the Same Exercises - the Inmates of this Hospital were much pleased - with 1 or 2 Exceptions Old Edition} Purposely Detained untill I Should Hear from Home
