Butter is [?] very high and sugar scarse and to remidy the evile I have made about three gallons of apple butter and five or six gallons of apple sauce; the apple butter is nice I wish you could have some, in the 2 last places Mother means we instead of I - John Go away John! Mary I suppose Sarah has gone home; she sent word to me; that Arba had come and urged me to go to Springfield to meet her there a week ago last Saturday. [but?] She said John and I must be sure and go as she had special business with me: but we could not go the rodes being very bad, racker lame, the buggy fills broken, and other things, preventing. I do not know of much news except Mrs Bennet has a girl nearly five weeks old; and Mrs Atwater a boy three days younger John Rood wishes to know how much nurses get a month and whether there are any chances to get in there
