paid the note given to you by the latter which amounted to $60.24. G.R. Cook paid $10.00 But not seeing the trade at Ashtabula & allso money paid you at two diferent times he made inquiries about it. A. Hrickernal & Smith Wyard promised to leave some money at Butter's next month. Russel Spalding refused to pay, said he should not pay any thing untill he saw you any way, that he had paid you all he had ought to. (Also there was various remarks in the family like the following, that you had boarded there enough to pay the bill. that they had paid more already than the benefit recieved from your visits that when the note was paid a large share of it would be in boot leather that after Mr. Spalding charged you for board you had not been there) Spalding said he had a recept for some he paid per H. Pond which with some account amounted to over $15, that you supposed you had spoiled it when you tore a hole in your name but he had kept it. Said I Mr. Spalding I should like to see the receipt & account well he could not find it right off, well said I, I shall be along here in a couple of weeks and for him to have his receipt ready & I should expect a payment. I also told him that according to his tell the receipt agreed with the endorsements on the note & if so it was of no account
