I think it will all come out well Enough if they Do not Encroach too much upon my Reputation, and as Hon T. W Powell is acquainted with Surgeon General Smith I think it will be fixed up Satisfactory and My Resignation which was tendered over a month ago & again to take Effect on the 27th of Jany 1863, will be accepted. & I Receive an honorable Release from Service - Dr Bill who has always But once treated Me Verry Kindly Told me on the 12th. Instant, when I Spoke to him about the propriety of My having His certificate certifying to The time I had been in Hospital under Him - I also Showed Him my order from Gov Tod notifying me of my appointment as Asst. Surgeon & order to Report.- Advised Me to Immediately address the Governour & ask Him how He wanted My Acct Settled & for Him to forward to Frederick by the 27th. Inst Such Statement with Blanks So arranged as to Settle My Acct to That Date. which by the way is the time No 3 will cease to Exist - may be close or Emptied of Patients Sooner -So You Discover while That Letter was going there Great uncertainty was Thrown over future Events - Commutation money which I had Calculated on, I. did not Think best to Draw untill I hear Some Thing Definite from the Gov of Ohio, I my on the 27 Receive an order from Medical Director to Report forth with to Gov Tod at Columbus - You See I am Subject to Sudden & Extreme orders as well as Gen Fremont McLellan Banks or any other of our noted Genls. - I am almost Inclined to ask Some one of the Frederick Divines to Start a puff a Strong one in My favor & forward it to Gov Tod - if that had been Done Some Time ago it might have paid - had it so arranged that Gov Tod would have Recd. Credit for Sending So good a physician and to the wants of the Sick a man So Thoroughly attentive - my Commutation Money would amount to 60 Dollars & More upon that I did Rely; the quarter Master Gave me Blanks to fill in order to Draw & Seemed disposed to asst. assuring me money would be here the Early part of Jany - I hardly dare Draw it now -
