861514 Potosi Mo Sept 14th. 1861 Dear Parents Brothers and Sisters I have waited a long time to get a letter from home it is now two weeks since we got a letter and we have sent several the one with Wm McCutcheons was the last but I expect it is not your fault the mail is sent wrong. Well their is some sickness in Camp John Glasgow has been very low and was not expected he would get well but he is on the mend P Lewis is getting better Samuel Black is down and is about as bad for the time as the rest was the doctor says he is not dangerous but he said that of the others the fever afects the head and makes them insensible. Jim and Hugh P thomas and myself sets up time about with him another the name of Thomas P Mann has been down about three weeks he is mending slowly there is several a little sick and I have something like the mumps I have not been sick one hour since we started few can say that but the most healthy are the most apt the take the fever well we are now expecting orders to leave this soon and go to our regt which is at Cario it is supposed we will go to Padua in Kentucky I expect we will march to the river and take the boat to Cario we have been expecting an atact some days back reports come that the rebels was within 15 miles of us between 1000 and 1400 strong our commander sent for some reinforcements which made our number 350 strong
