861527 Detachment of 7th Regt Iowa vol Potosi Washington Co Mo Sept 27th:/61 Dear parents. brothers and sisters I have been looking for a letter from you But nary letter come yet. Sam Lewis has come to take Jim home and we take this opertunity of sending a few lines and save some postage stamps for you may believe thay are pretty scarce. Well the sick folks are most of them better except John Glasgow and there is not much difference on him sam black is setting up at the fire now and is mending pretty fast Jim Lewis wants to go home to day but Capt Crab say hee cant go till day after to morrow It is cool damp weather here now and I think it is getting more healthy among the soldiers Our Regt is at fort Jefferson Kentucky we wish we was with it so we could get some letters our letters all go to the Regt and they dont send them Back so we do not get only a small portion of the letters you send to us when we get to the Regt we will have an arm full a piece you need not stop writing on that acount some comes here and in a while I have got 11 or 12 since we came here but some of our boys has got none attall Jim Lewis has took acxtion to go to day and cannot be persuaded otherwise
