La Grange Tenn May 17th 1863 Dear Sister I wrote to father a few evenings ago informing him that we were to take another scout immediately. Now fearing you might be uneasy as to the result , I will inform you that we are in Camp again safe and sound. We arrived day day before yesterday we were only gone five days. We went to Senatoba or batesville as it is called on some of the maps. It is about seventy miles south west of here on the Memphis and Grenady R. R. We captured twenty confederates at Senatoba we took them entirely by surprise. I think the main object of the scout was to forage off of the Country and get horses and mules. Each Company was allowed to send out a scouting party every day to bring in the horses and mules. The party would consist of a squad of from eight to ten men and a sergeant we brought in every
