January, Wednesday 20, 1864 Camped near Wood Ville Ala I am on provost guard to day at the Depot. the guard duty is quite easy I am guarding a man that had diserted our army & is brought back and Court marshal. his sentence is to imprisment 3 years and hard labor and no pay allowed him. I received a letter from Parthenia J Brown to day January, Thursday 21, 1864 Camped near Wood Ville Ala it is very pleasant to day it looks as though we were a going to have fine weather. we were relive at 9 oclock this morning, the vetterans. are mustering out ready to be mustered in for three year more. I spent the night very disagreeable last night not getting any sleep
