May, Wednesday 11, 1864 Near Coosa River, Ga. We had a very hard night rain last night it Commenced raining at 9 oclock & rain all night. there was a great excitement after mid night and the troops all fell back to the breast work. [then?] we have all been call[ed] out to day to build breast works. there is a great many Skirmis[hes] but not mutch fighti[ng] Pleasant day. May, Thursday 12, 1864 Near Coosa River, Ga. this morning at 8 oclock we were ordered out in line of battle out of the breast work. I help to dress a beef this morning. we confiscated it from the rebles. there is heavy canonadeing about 10 miles above us to day. very quiet all around our lines to day
