May, Sunday 29, 1864 Battlefield Dallas Ga our Brigades worked all night last building breast works. we built a line of two miles. there was heavy canonading at 4 P.M. the rebles tried to Shell us out but in vain the Surgeon of the 2 Iowa Inftry was kiled with a Shell it took his head off from his soulders. two Lines of the 1st,,Mo Battries was placed at the right of our Regt,, to day May, Monday 30, 1864 Battlefield Dallas Ga last night at 8 oclock we were orderd to fall back to the support of the 4 Div [the enamy?] mass there forces and at tempted to make a charge but did not advance any thing more than a heavy scirmish line. our artillery and musketry and repulsed. the reb made 7 difent charges last night we retu[rned?] to our Breast work at 10 oclock eve I wrote a letter to James Brown every thing quiet to day extra Skr. firing to day a Sergt of Co A was Kiled to day shot with a minier ball
